d. Zurich (Switzerland), Sept. 30, 1946, chemist. Professor at the 
University of Vienna. 1938-1945 Secretary General, 1945/1946 President 
of the Austrian  Academy of Sciences. Dedicated much time to the 
research of alcaloids,determined the structure of more than 120 
vegetable substances; editor of the scientific periodical "Monatshefte 
fuer Chemie".
