Spannocchi, Emil, b. Salzburg, Sept. 1, 1916, 
d. Wiener Neustadt (Lower Austria), Aug. 29, 1992, army officer. From 
1934 in the Austrian and German Armed Forces respectively, general 
staff training. 1954 joined the Federal Police, 1957 commander of the 
tank troops school, 1963-1973 commander of the Military Academy (later 
Academy of National Defence). Together with other officers developed 
the concept of "Territorial Defence". 1973-1981 as General and Army 
commander responsible for the reorganisation of the  Federal Armed 
Forces.
