Spaun, Anton Ritter* von, b. Linz (Upper Austria), May 31, 1790, 
d. Kremsmuenster (Upper Austria), June 26, 1849, literary 
historian and folklorist. A main representative of Romanticism, 
established the scientific basis for folklore studies in Austria, 
belonged to the literary circle around E. von  Feuchtersleben, A. 
 Stifter and M. von  Schwind; founder of the Museum of the 
Province of Upper Austria  Francisco-Carolinum.
