Sperl, Gerfried, b. Oberzeiring (Styria), Dec. 11, 1941, 
journalist. Studied English and German language and literature as well 
as philosophy in Graz; established the student movement 
"Aktion" with B.  Frankfurter. From 1968 journalist for the 
newspaper "Kleine Zeitung"; 1973-198 head of the foreign 
affairs department, 1978-1982 senior editor. 1982-1986 editor-in-chief 
of the newspaper "Sued-Ost Tagespost"; 1987-1988 deputy 
editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Kurier"; 1988 founding 
member of the newspaper "Der Standard" and since then 
editor-in-chief.

Auf dem Schnee ein Feuer, 1978 (screenplay); Steirer 
Blut ist kein Himbeersaft, 1979 (screenplay); Liberalismus gegen 
Nationalismus, 1993; Gegen den Strich gebaut, 1997.
