St. Jakob in Defereggen, Tirol, municipality in the district of 
Lienz, alt. 1,389 m, pop. 1,005, 
area 185.95 km%%sup 2/%, bi-seasonal tourist resort (358,042 
overnight stays in 1992) and high-altitude health resort in the 
Hinteres Defereggen Valley; contains the highest-lying farm 
(alt. 1,712 m) in East Tirol. - Customs department, 
recreation home of the Carinthian regional health and social insurance 
agency, run-of-river power plant on the Trojer Almbach stream and 
Brugger Almbach stream, disused mines. - Classicist parish church 
(1827-1830), frescoes (1935); St. Leonhard's filial church (1464 and 
after 1480) with vault frescoes (around 1500) by Simon von Taisten.
