St. Martin bei Lofer, province of Salzburg, municipality in the 
district of Zell am See, alt. 634 m, pop. 1,025, 
area 63.55 km%%sup 2/%, in the Saalachtal Valley, summer 
tourist resort (183,990 overnight stays in 1992), situated at the 
north eastern foot of the Lofer Mountains. - Bavarian Saal forest 
administration and office of forestry, meditation and retreat centre, 
Hochmoos mud bath, electric power plant (private). - Gothic-Baroque 
parish church (altar paintings by W. Faistenberger); Grubhof Palace 
(core late Gothic, remodelled in 1890 and 1984); remnants of Saalegg 
Castle; Kirchenthal pilgrimage centre with Baroque church (1694-1701 
after drafts of J. B. Fischer v. Erlach). In the vicinity: 
Vorderkaserklamm Gorge, Strohwollnerschlucht Gorge and 
Lamprechtshoehle cave (biggest water-bearing cave in Europe, parts of 
which are located in the municipal district of Weissbach bei Lofer).
