St. Stefan im Gailtal, Carinthia, municipality in the district of 
Hermagor, alt. 726 m, pop. 1893, area 66.24 km%%sup 2/%, 
summer tourist resort (52,348 overnight stays in 1992) situated north 
of the lower Gailtal valley; includes the cadastral community of St. 
Stefan an der Gail. - Late Gothic parish church with Baroque interior; 
Calvary chapel (1771); castles Greifenstein (1556), Bodenhof 
(16%%sup th/% -17%%sup th/%  centuries), Zossenegg, Bichelhof; ruins 
of Aichelburg Castle (first documented mention in 1307). Local 
customs: Kufenstechen and Lindentanz.
