Staatskonferenz, Geheime, consultative body constituted at the 
instigation of Emperor Franz I on December 12, 1836 to relieve 
the disabled Emperor Ferdinand I of his duties as ruler. Headed 
by Archduke Ludwig (brother of Franz I), it comprised Archduke 
Franz Karl (brother of Emperor Ferdinand I), C. W. Prince 
Metternich and F. A. Count Kolowrat-Liebsteinsky; existed until 
March 1848.
