State Police, institution for the protection of the state and the 
constitution. One of several individual groups, the State Police is 
part of the Public Security Authorities in the Ministry of the  
Interior and is responsible in particular for the following tasks: 
safety measures on the occasion of state and official visits, mass 
events and meetings of international organisations, protection of the 
representative bodies, personal security, observation of subversive 
activities, investigation of National-Socialist crimes of violence, 
co-ordination and direction of measures to maintain law and order and 
public security ( Police). Since 1993 the activities of the State 
Police have been under the control of a special permanent 
sub-committee of the Nationalrat (National Council).
