Statthalter, term referring to a territorial prince appointed by the 
emperor to preside over the administration of a crownland until 1918. 
In Vorarlberg the deputy of the Provincial Governor is called 
"Landes-Statthalter", from 1939-1945 the head of a gau 
administration was referred to as "Reichs-Statthalter".
