Important member of the cathedral construction guild in Cologne (Koelner Dombauhuette), specialized in sacral buildings and restaurations. 1854/55 participated in the competition for the Vienna Votive church; even though his design was favoured by the church representatives, it was rejected in the end. S. was, however, commissioned inter alia to build the Cathedral of Linz (1858-1924), one of the most outstanding monumental works of Historicist sacral architecture. !Literature H. Vogts, V.
