Staudacher, Hans, b. St. Urban (Carinthia), Jan. 14, 1923, 
painter and graphic artist, representative of an informal type of 
action painting. After 1945 first created expressive cycles of 
pen-and-ink drawings and pictures made of synthetic resin; from 1960 
consistently espoused non-figurative painting including calligraphic 
characters into his work ("Lettrismus"); participated in painting 
actions (1964 burning of pictures, 1970 "Abbruch"); designed stained 
glass works and mosaics; 1956 Austrian representative at the Biennale 
festival in Venice.
