!!!Stauseen Reservoirs, large-scale water storage facilities, in Austria mostly in mountain areas, for water used by power plants. The amount of water stored varies over the year by up to 50%; a number of storage power plants operate on the pumped-storage principle. In summer, Alpine reservoirs are used as tourist attractions (e.g. Silvretta Reservoir, Vorarlberg). There are only a few reservoirs for drinking water and water for industrial use (e.g. Wienerwaldsee, Lower Austria). The dammed-up river sections serving run-of-river power plants are not reservoirs properly speaking. The first power plant reservoir in Austria was constructed at Wienerbruck, Lower Austria, in 1911. \\ Oesterreichisches Nationalkomitee fuer Talsperren (ed.), Dams in Austria, 1991. %%language [Back to the Austrian Version|AEIOU/Stauseen|class='wikipage austrian'] %% [{FreezeArticle author='AEIOU' template='Lexikon_1995_englisch'}] [{ALLOW view All}][{ALLOW comment All}][{ALLOW edit FreezeAdmin}]
