b. Vienna, March 6, 1944, studied law, politician (Austrian Freedom 
Party, FPOe). Since 1975 has practised law (self-employed). 1975-1977 
Deputy Provincial Party Chairman, 1977 Party Chairman of the FPOe in 
Vienna; 1978-1980 Deputy Party Chairman of the FPOe at federal level, 
1980-1986 Party Chairman of the FPOe at federal level; 1983-1987 
Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister of Trade, Commerce and Industry; 
1979-1986 member of the Nationalrat. Belonged to the liberal wing of 
the FPOe, after a vote in a contested election 1986 was replaced as 
Party Chairman by J.  Haider.
