b. Aichdorf (municipality of Fohnsdorf, Styria), March 2, 1874, 
d. Graz (Styria), March 7, 1961, priest, adult education teacher and 
politician (Christian Socialist); 1919/1920 member of the provincial 
government of Styria, 1919-1923 member of the Landtag of Styria, 
1920-1938 and 1945-1950 head of the provincial adult education office 
("Landesstelle fuer das baeuerliche Fort- und Volksbildungswesen"), 
which he had founded in Sankt Martin near Graz and out of which he 
developed a centre for adult education ("Volksbildungsheim") according 
to a Scandinavian model. His "System S." gained international 
recognition.
