!!!Steinbock Ibex: A subspecies of the Ibex, the Alpine Ibex, can be found in Austria. Its habitat is limited to the Alps. By the beginning of the 19%%sup th/% century, only 60 animals had survived in the Gran Paradiso National Park. However, the Alpine Ibex was successfully resettled in Austria (Hagengebirge Mountains, Hochschwab Mountain). \\ The Ibex males and females live in separate groups (exception: mating season from November through January) above the tree line; even-toed hoofed mammal (perissodactyl ungulate). Around 1-1.5 m long with characteristic horns; the horns of the male Ibex are much bigger and make it possible to determine the animal´s age due to their broad transverse ridges. Greyish brown and brown hide. %%language [Back to the Austrian Version|AEIOU/Steinbock|class='wikipage austrian'] %% [{FreezeArticle author='AEIOU' template='Lexikon_1995_englisch'}] [{ALLOW view All}][{ALLOW comment All}][{ALLOW edit FreezeAdmin}]
