Led an unsettled life until 1824, his songs "Lieder in obderenns'scher Volksmundart" mark his breakthrough 1837; considered the most important representative of Upper Austrian vernacular literature from a rural environment. Journalist in Vienna until 1842, then in Upper Austria, Salzburg and Germany.
