Steyregg, Upper Austria, town in the district of Urfahr Umgebung, alt. 
259 m, pop. 4,536, area 33.04 km%%sup 2/%, opposite the 
confluence of the Rivers Traun and Danube, on the edge of the Steyregg 
Woods. - Building and construction centre, Lehrbauhof Oberoesterreich 
(training centre for building apprentices), district-heating plant; 
wood construction, gravel, automobile electronics plant, construction 
of ventilation systems, trades. - Town status in the late 15%%sup th/% 
 century. - Originally Gothic parish church redesigned in Baroque 
style with frescoes (14%%sup th/% /15%%sup th/%  century); old castle 
(first documented mention 1150), 16%%sup th/%  century core, extended 
in the 17%%sup th/%  century, castle chapel with stucco interior 
(1670); new castle (1778), extended in 1894; museum of local history 
and culture in the City Tower (Stadtturm); ruins of Pulgarn monastery, 
chapel (1512) with Gothic altar.
