Straus, Oscar, b. Vienna, March 6, 1870, 
d. Bad Ischl (Upper Austria), Jan. 11, 1954, composer of operettas, 
musical director in Brno (Bruenn), Teplice (Teplitz), Mainz and 
Berlin, where he founded the cabaret theatre "Ueberbrettl" with 
E. L. Wolzogen (1901-1902). After his return to Vienna (approx. 
1903) composed highly successful operettas and gained international 
reputation with "A Waltz Dream" ("Ein Walzertraum", 1907); 1939 
emigrated to Paris (French nationality, Chevalier of the Legion of 
Honour), lived in New York and Hollywood; 1948 returned to Austria 
(Bad Ischl).

All Around Love (Rund um die Liebe), 1914; Der letzte Walzer, 1920; 
Eine Frau, die weiss, was sie will, 1932; 3 waltzes, 1935; Die Musik 
kommt, 1948; Ihr erster Walzer, 1950; Bozena, 1952. 3 operas, music 
for ballets, orchestra and films, 500 cabaret numbers (approx.).
