!!!Strigel, Bernhard

Strigel, Bernhard, b. Memmingen (Germany), around 1460, 
d. Memmingen (Germany), before May 4, 1528, painter. Came from an 
artists´ family, painter at the court of Emperor Maximilian I, produced numerous portraits of the Emperor and 
his family members (in the Vienna Kunsthistorisches Museum and 
elsewhere), partly in official and partly in informal style; also much 
appreciated as an altar painter. On the occasion of the Habsburg 
double marriage of two of Maximilian´s grandchildren with 
Hungarian Princes 1515 and again 1520 came to Vienna to portray the 
family of the humanist Johannes  Cuspinianus (today at Kreuzenstein 
Castle). One of the leading Swabian masters at the transition from 
late Gothic to Renaissance.
