!!!Türken
Turks: From the 1960s onwards Turkish migrants came to Austria to find
employment here. Around 118,000 Turks were living in Austria in 1991,
6,200 Austrians gave Turkish as their first language. 90% of the Turks
are Muslims, mainly Sunnites belonging to the school of law of
Hanafis. The majority of the Turks living in Austria are between 20
and 40 years old, 40% are women. The life of Turks in Austria is
strongly influenced by Turkish culture, but their way of living
depends on whether they come from rural areas or big cities, and on
the religious, political and ethnic group they belong to. There are
many racially, culturally and religious distinct groups and several
ethnic and religious minorities (e.g. the Kurds of Anatolia and the
Alevites). The Turks in Austria speak New (Ottoman) Turkish
(introduced in 1923).
