Übernahm 1779 die Verwaltung des Innviertels, 1783-86 1. Präsident der oberösterreichischen Landesregierung; nach Differenzen mit Joseph II. trat er zurück. Seine 2. Gemahlin, Maria Anna (geborene Gräfin Künigl, 1743-1798) war literarisch sehr gebildet und in der Botanik bewandert.
