Thaya, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Waidhofen an der 
Thaya, alt. 484 m, pop. 1424, area 43.34 km%%sup 2/%, 
agricultural town situated on the River Thaya, north of Waidhofen 
an der Thaya. - Construction industry and ancillary trades. - 
Parish church with Romanesque core, Gothic alterations in the 
15%%sup th/%  century, high altar (around 1765-1770); former hospital 
church (1689, today funeral parlour); pillory (2%%sup nd/%  half of 
17%%sup th/%  century); fountain basin (16%%sup th/%  /17%%sup th/%  
centuries); houses with historicist façades in the town centre; 
excavations of the deserted "Hard" settlement on municipal 
grounds.
