Theuerdank ("Noble-Mind"), allegorical, 
"autobiographical" work by Emperor Maximilian I, edited 
and set to verse by M. Treitzsaurwein, M. Pfinzing et al.; 
relates, in the style of the  courtly epics of the 13%%sup th/% 
 century, how Maximilian (character "Theuerdank") wooed 
his first wife, Maria von Burgund (character "Ehrenreich") 
The first edition (in 1517, under Pfinzing´s name, with woodcuts 
by L. Beck, H. Schaeufelein, H. Burgkmair et al.) was only 
intended for the emperor´s circle of close family and friends; 
the first edition for the public was printed in 1519, after 
Maximilian´s death.
