b. Dresden (Germany), June 16, 1854, 
d. Vienna, Sept. 24, 1944, court actor, theatre manager, father of 
Hermann  Thimig, Helene  Thimig-Reinhardt and Hans  Thimig; From 
1874-1923 at the  Burgtheater as honorary member and 1912-1917 as 
managing director; 1923-1936 at the Theater in der Josefstadt; from 
1936 guest performance again at the Burgtheater; famous for his 
portrayal of character and comic parts. His extensive collection of 
theatre memorabilia formed the basis of the theatrical collection of 
the Austrian National Library - today referred to as the Austrian  
Theatre Museum.
