b. Boppard (Germany), July 2, 1796, 
d. Vienna, March 3, 1871, cabinet-maker, then furniture manufacturer. 
From 1830 developed a method of bending and turning wood; 1842 called 
to Vienna by Metternich, started industrial production and established 
the company Gebrueder  Thonet.
