b. Bezau, Vorarlberg, Dec. 18, 1681, 
d. Konstanz, Germany, March 4, 1766, master builder; son of 
Michael  Thumb nephew of Christian  Thumb. Successor to the artistic 
heritage of F.  Beer von Blaichten, he stood at the threshold to the 
Rococo period; representative of the  Vorarlberg School; worked mostly 
in southwestern Germany, Alsace and Switzerland.

Shrine at Birnau am Bodensee (Germany), 1747-58; St. Gallen 
Collegiate church (Switzerland), 1755-86.
