b. Prague (Czech Republic), March 1, 1880, 
d. New York (USA), April 11, 1954. Art historian. University professor 
in Vienna and New York with outstanding merits in aesthetics and art 
history, conservation of monuments and museology in Austria 
(restructured the Viennese museums after 1918); emigrated to the USA 
in 1938. He wrote many of his numerous publications with his wife, the 
art historian Erika T-Conrat (1883-1957).
