Criminal Record, Extinction of: After a certain period of time 
convictions are extinguished from the criminal record of a person  
Register of Convictions. The minimum period before such an extinction 
can become effective is 5 years (for juvenile delinquents 3 years). If 
a person has more than one conviction the criminal record is only 
partly extinguished, the record of a person sentenced to life 
imprisonment cannot be extinguished. The Federal President of Austria 
can grant pardons and extinguish criminal records.
