Table Tennis: Great Austrian players were: T. Pritzi (women´s 
singles world champion in 1938, doubles world champion in 1947) and R. 
Bergmann (men´s team world champion in 1936, singles world 
champion in 1937). Until 1938 Austria was one of the most successful 
countries in table tennis. World Championships were held in Austria 
three times (in 1933 and 1937 in Baden, in 1951 in Vienna). In more 
recent times E. Maier has excelled in the ladies´ team and E. 
Amplatz and the naturalized Austrian citizen Ding Yi have been the 
most successful male table tennis players. The Austrian Table Tennis 
Federation was founded in 1923; it has its headquarters in Vienna and 
has more than 20,000 members (1994) in 590 table tennis associations.
