b. Vienna, Dec. 7, 1887, 
d. Santa Monica (USA), Oct. 1, 1964, composer and pianist, teacher in 
Mannheim. As of 1909 he lived in Frankfurt, Mannheim, Berlin. In 1933 
went to London and in 1934 to the USA (1940 American citizen), where 
he was recognised as a teacher and composer (numerous prizes and 
awards, Pulitzer prize for his 3rd symphony); representative of 
neoclassicism.

Operas: Die Prinzessin auf der Erbse, 1927; Der Faecher, 1930. 
- Cantatas, symphonies, chamber music, film music and radio play 
music.
