!!!Toplitzsee
Toplitzsee Lake, province of Styria, alt. 718 m, situated to
the north of Bad Mitterndorf (alt. 809 m) and to the south
of the Totes Gebirge Mountains. Mountain lake 2 km long,
400 m wide and 103 m deep; drained by the Toplitzbach
stream, which flows westward to Lake Grundlsee; the nearest village is
Goessl (alt. 720 m) on Lake Grundlsee. Between 1943 and 1945
a big laboratory was situated directly on the shore of Toplitzsee in
which weapons and mines were tested by the German navy. At the end of
the war several boxes with counterfeit sterling banknotes were sunk in
the lake by the Nazis.
