Trass is a name for various kinds of volcanic rock. Since the 1950s 
Austrian Trass (called Gossendorfite) has been mined in Gossendorf 
near Gleichenberg (Styria), Gossendorfite is an alunite used for 
building materials; in 1993 9,102 tonnes of trass were mined 
Austria.
