b. Znojmo, Czech Republic (then Znaim), July 3, 1882, 
d. Vienna, June 17, 1969, scientist in forestry. 1925 to 1945 
university professor in Warsaw, Istanbul, Freiburg im Breisgau and 
Vienna; conducted research on the natural composition of forests of 
central and southern Europe; from 1950 president of the Austrian 
Forestry Association.
