b. Litovel, Czech Republic (then Littau), April 19, 1836, 
d. Vienna, May 4, 1927, mineralogist; father of Armin  
Tschermak-Seysenegg and Erich  Tschermak-Seysenegg. In 1862 co-curator 
at the Imperial Cabinet of Minerals in Vienna, 1874-1906 university 
professor for mineralogy and petrography in Vienna. Established the 
journal "Mineralogisch-Petrographische Mitteilungen" (originally 
"Tschermaks Mineralogisch-Petrographische Mitteilungen"). 
Conducted research on rock-forming silicate materials and meteorites.
