Tux, Tirol, municipality in the district of Schwaz, 
alt. 1,281 m, pop. 1,950, 
area 111.11 km%%sup 2/%, winter sports resort (844,056 
overnight stays in 1992) situated in the valley of the Tuxbach stream 
extending to the Tuxer Joch saddle (2,338 m), with the villages 
of  Hintertux, Lanersbach, Madseit and Vorderlanersbach. - Cableways: 
Eggalm (1,948 m) and Rastkogel I and II monocable cableways 
to the Hoarbergjoch mountain (2,590 m), Zillertal glacier 
cableways from Hintertux. - First documented mention in 1280; Baroque 
parish church with Gothic tower (1465) and high altar (around 1740) 
with paintings by J. G. Grasmair in Lanersbach; farmsteads 
from the 18%%sup th/%  century in Gemais.
