Vienna International Centre (VIC), located in Vienna´s 22nd 
district, built 1973-1979 to plans by J.  Staber (won 4%%sup th/%  
prize in the 1970 international competition). The striking ground plan 
was inspired by the shape of the letter Y. With the completion of the 
VIC, Vienna became the 3%%sup rd/%  UN headquarters ( UNO) alongside 
New York and Geneva. A conference centre ( Austria Center Vienna, also 
built by Staber) was added in 1983-1987.
