b. Česky Těšín, Czech Republic (then Teschen), Jan. 1, 1898, 
d. Auschwitz, concentration camp (Poland), Oct. 17, 1944, composer, 
student of A.  Schoenberg and A. Haba. Orchestra conductor at the 
Deutsches Theater in Prague 1920 to 1926 and 1933 to 1939; in 1927 in 
Ustí nad Labem. In 1942 deported to Theresienstadt 
concentration camp, where he continued to compose music and organise 
concerts. His best known piece, the opera "Der Kaiser von Atlantis" 
was created there.
