Consumer Electronics (electronics for leisure): International consumer 
electronics companies have brought important industrial activities, 
such as production, development and research, to Austria. With 
sophisticated video recorders, colour-TV sets, radio recorders, and 
components for the consumer electronics industry are manufactured, 
this branch has an export share of over 93% (mainly to Western 
Europe). Digital compact cassettes and video recorders are produced in 
Austria. About 2 million video recorders and 1.2 million 
TV-sets were exported in 1993. About 60 million VHS cassettes and 17 
million digital compact cassettes are produced each year. Apart from 
the production of terminal devices, Austria also has key-technology 
competence centres for consumer electronics (scanners, video heads and 
drives).
