b. Weimar (Germany), Nov. 12, 1939, specialist in theatre studies, 
dramaturge, theatre manager. From 1970 lecture tours, guest 
professorships. 1975 founded the "Literarisches Quartier" in his 
capacity as head of the literature section of the Cultural Office of 
the City of Vienna; from 1979 chief dramaturge of the Burgtheater, 
initiator of "Literature in March". From 1988 art director of the  
Theater der Jugend, since 1990 lecturer at the Institute of Theatre 
Studies in Vienna. Numerous publications on Austrian literature and 
theatre of the 19th and 20th centuries (e.g. A. Schnitzler, F. 
Raimund).
