VAE AG, founded in 1851,VAE AG, world market leader in the production 
and manufacture of railway switches, electronic security systems and 
components for railway engineering. Headquarters in Zeltweg 
(established in 1851), production sites in Australia, Bulgaria, 
Canada, Great Britain, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Spain, South Africa 
and the USA; divested by the group of the nationalised  Austrian 
Industries AG ( VOEST) in 1992/93 and 100% privatised by listing on 
the stock exchange, subsidiary of the majority owner  VOEST-ALPINE 
STAHL AG since 1998, turnover (1997): ATS 2.28 billion; 1,767 
employees; share of exports: 80 %.
