Vandans, Vorarlberg, municipality in the district of Bludenz, alt. 
648 m, pop. 2,311, area 53.54 km%%sup 2/%, bi-seasonal 
tourist resort (139,788 overnight stays in 1992) where the Rellstal 
valley joins the Illtal valley, in the Montafon region. The townscape 
is characterised by the Vandans rock face of the Zimba mountain (alt. 
2,643 m). - Vorarlberg Illwerke AG: Rodundwerk I (built in 1943, 
173 MW) and II (built in 1976, 276 MW) central office and 
various departments and storage power stations, Raetikonhalle 
multipurpose hall. - Documented mention in 1420 as 
"Fundans", settlement of the Rhaeto-Romans and the Walsers. 
- New parish church (1959); pilgrimage chapel (1613, rebuilt in 1722); 
castle ruin; old Paarhof farmhouse type (18%%sup th/%  century); in 
the immediate vicinity, mountain refuges: Heinrich-Hueter-Huette (alt. 
1,766 m) and Douglashuette at Lake Luenersee; northwest of 
Vandans, gorge of the Mustergieltobel stream.
