Veneti, name of several peoples of pre-Roman times. Of importance for 
the Austrian territory were the Veneti who settled in the eastern part 
of upper Italy, and whose special alphabet and language have been 
discovered (5%%sup th/%  - 1%%sup st/%  century B.C.). Inscriptions in 
Austria were found on  Gurina Mountain, at Missoria-Alpe near 
Wuermlach and at Findenig-Thoerl.
