Collecting Societies, associations and societies established to 
protect copyright and licences of products of art vis-à-vis 
third parties and to allocate tantièmes and royalties. Among 
the 12 societies active in Austria the major ones are  AKM (authors, 
composers, music publishers), Austro-Mechana (music),  Literarische 
Verwertungsgesellschaft and  Literar-Mechana (both for works of 
literature).
