Vichtenstein Castle, Upper Austria, district of Schaerding, medieval 
castle from the 11%%sup th/%  century at the border of the Sauwald 
region in the upper Danube valley (first documentary mention in 1097); 
passed to the Diocese of Passau in 1254, came into Austrian property 
in 1782. Splendid castle, very well preserved, Romanesque keep in the 
outer ward (12%%sup th/%  century), grand hall (16%%sup th/%  century) 
with 3 towers, chapel with presbytery (14%%sup th/%  century), nave 
(17%%sup th/%  century).
