Vierthaler, Franz Michael, b. Mauerkirchen (Upper Austria), Sept. 25, 1758, 
d. Vienna, Oct. 3, 1827, prominent representative of education in the 
spirit of Enlightenment, author of school books, writer. 1783-1787 
teacher at the Virgilianum ( Knights' Academies), 1790-1803 director 
of the recently founded teacher training institution and official of 
the school commission in Salzburg, 1803 schools inspector in Salzburg 
province, 1804-1806 orphanage director in Salzburg and 1806-1827 in 
Vienna. V.'s work was influential throughout Austria and Bavaria.
