!!!Vikas, Karl

b. Ternitz (Lower Austria), Sept. 19, 1875, 
d. Krems (Lower Austria), Aug. 30, 1934, painter. Trained under H.  
Darnaut, because he did not have adequate financial means to attend 
the Academy of Fine Arts. Was able to buy a house in Mautern in 1904 
due to his success as a landscape and still life painter and numerous 
commissions from an art dealer; lived there until his death. Like E. 
J.  Schindler V.'s work is characterized by great sensitivity combined 
with realistic and impressionist elements. Founding member of the 
Wachauer Kuenstlerbund (association of artists from the Wachau Valley) 
in 1919.
