Virgil, Saint, feast day Nov. 27, b. Ireland, around 700, 
d. Salzburg, Nov. 27, 784; 746/47-784 Bishop of Salzburg (patron 
saint). Missionary work mainly in an area occupied by Alpine Slavs, 
started the book of brotherhood of the monastery of St. Peter; built 
the first cathedral in Salzburg, which was consecrated in 774. Tomb in 
the new crypt of Salzburg Cathedral.
