b. Vienna, Feb. 7, 1802, 
d. Vienna, Nov. 16, 1866, writer of poetry and narratives, civil 
servant. Member of the literary group in the Vienna "Silbernes 
Kaffeehaus"; contributed to and published numerous almanachs and 
pocket books ("Oesterreichisches Wunderhorn", 1834). Many of his 
ballads were written in Viennese late-Romantic style (e.g. "Heinrich 
der Vogler", "Das Erkennen") and set to music by C. Loewe, some by F.  
Schubert; publisher of a highly acclaimed 4-volume publication of the 
works of F.  Raimund (1837).
