b. Linz (Upper Austria), Sept. 13, 1940, industrial businessman, 
social scientist and politician (Austrian Social Democratic Party, 
SPOe). 1984-1988 vice-president and 1988-1994 president of the 
Workers' and Employees' Chamber for Vienna and of the Organization of 
the Austrian Chambers of Labour, 1994-2000 central secretary of the 
union of salaried private-sector employees; since 1997 head of the 
Pension Insurance Institution for Employees.
